This painting is about being under the trees where the light feels cooler and everything is green. It was inspired by the garden paths and leafy canopies, where the sun comes through in bits and the ground feels calm.
I used lots of green and kept layering the paint, adding and taking it away as I went. Some parts are darker where the shade is thicker, and other parts are lighter where the light comes through.
In the Shade is about how it feels to stand under the trees and look up — quiet, cool, and safe.
